We’re not just here to make tacos, but to help youth grow and lead successful lives. DRG is a proud participant in Taco Bell Foundation’s Community Grants program. It’s so impactful to see our fundraising efforts come to fruition when a check is presented to our community partners. Our longstanding relationships with Junior Achievement, Boys and Girls Club, and Big Brothers Big Sisters allow us to do just that.

Funding rolls in all year long in our restaurants with the Round Up program, a system implemented by our CEO David Grieve, where customers can round up their order total to the nearest dollar at the front counter and kiosk. Taco Bell Corporate handles the money distribution, but it’s based on how much we fundraise in each market as a company. The Round Up program helps fund Taco Bell Foundation’s Live Más Scholarships.

“Round Up is such a big piece of who we are, as we get to make a positive impact on the lives of the people we serve.” – Sierra Burk, Communications & Media Manager

Inspiring Partnership

A special opportunity arose when we partnered with Junior Achievement to speak before the Young Women’s Leadership Academy about our careers. The day consisted of talking about the various DRG departments and how the sky is the limit in the food industry! We ended with a competition where we served as judges as the young women were tasked with creating a unique marketing campaign for the Rolled Chicken Tacos. The day was fun and some amazing ideas were shared.

2023 Check Donation Presentations:
  • Junior Achievement of Southern Nevada – $45,290
  • Boys & Girls Club of Southern Nevada – $100,000
  • Big Brothers Big Sisters of Southern Nevada – combined $40,000 donated by Taco Bell and Arby’s
Final Tallies

All in all, DRG gave out nearly $2 million in community grants among all of our markets and $321,520 in community grants in Nevada! Check back later to see how much we raise in 2024! The bar has been set high, but we love accepting this challenge in the name of youth in our communities.

At the 2022 DRG Leadership Summit, Co-COOs Todd Kelly and Tom Douglas introduced our “official” company core values. While the values were shared for the first time in Las Vegas, our leaders say these aren’t necessarily “new.”

“We’ve been actively living and breathing these values as a company for a very long time,” Tom says. “We just finally have put them down on paper.”

Take personal accountability and lead with integrity.

Be yourself and show you care.

Embrace change and challenge the status quo.

Positive energy is contagious.

Did you hear the news? We recently broke ground on an innovative project that will put electric vehicle (EV) chargers in the parking lot of our south San Francisco Taco Bell on El Camino Real. EV customers will now be able to fuel their bodies and charge their cars, all at once. Forbes took note in its recent article, “Some Taco Bell Customers Will Soon Be Able to Order a Chalupa and an EV Charge.”

The project, at the south San Francisco location, is expected to conclude at the end of October 2021. It exemplifies our commitment to trying new things and being at the forefront of quick service innovation.

More About Taco Bell’s Charging Stations

Specifically, six RTM direct current (DC) “fast chargers,” built by Tritium, will be installed across six parking slots at the location. The project will also include a solar array, which will serve as backup in case of a power outage. According to a recent article by Forbes, hooking up to one of these fast chargers will provide an EV driver with “46 miles of range in 10 minutes”! Software built by ChargeNet will make mobile payment for the service easy.

When it comes to  this new concept, it’s a “win-win” for local communities and customers, who can now pull up, plug in electric cars and grab a quick bite to eat. We hope to further promote the adoption of electric vehicles which may climb up to 35 million by 2030, as recently reported by Nation’s Restaurant News.

Our new EV charging concept joins a list of other unique, one-of-a-kind offerings launched by the company through its popular cantina design, found on the Las Vegas Strip and at other California locations:

  • Pacifica, Calif.: Beachside, surfboard rack, walk-up window
  • Las Vegas, Nevada: VIP lounge, DJ booth, access to Vegas nightlife, home to Taco Bell Weddings
  • Danville, Calif.: Full bar; outdoor patio with lawn games and a fire pit
  • San Ramon, Calif.: Built-in X-box gaming consoles

On July 24, leaders from our Nevada market represented DRG at the Northern Nevada Pride Festival, a 501(c) (3) non-profit organization that supports Our Center. The organization’s main mission is to establish and maintain a safe, empowering, and supportive center for youth, seniors, and members of the LGBT community in Northern Nevada that addresses advocacy, education and services.

A special thanks to Denis and Kira for getting the booth set up and engaging with festival goers about DRG and what we do, all while opening up a new store! You both are amazing!

Early this month, the DRG team opened a new Arby’s in Fairbanks, AK and so far the results have been outstanding! Located at 1391 University Ave. S, the newly constructed Arby’s boasts some of the brands’ new restaurant design features as well as the traditional Arby’s menu. Restaurant-goers shared all on the Fairbanks Food and Restaurant Review, a community Facebook page with more than 13,000 members.

“Arby’s! You guys rocked! That’s the way you do it! I rang that bell loud and proud when I left! Thank you!”
Lisa Centner-Smith, Fairbanks Food and Restaurant Review Facebook page member

Drive-thru lines this week wrapped around the Safeway parking lot, but General Manager James Poole, Area Coach Noelle Spafford, and the great restaurant team were able to keep the line moving and guests happy. Jessica McElhaney, a member of the Fairbanks Food and Restaurant group, said that her experience at Arby’s was fantastic. “The wait wasn’t bad at all for opening day, maybe 10 cars deep and the line moved pretty fast,” she wrote in her review. “We had a big order and not a single thing was messed up.  They even gave us a bag full of sauces and thanked us for coming!”

Despite the overwhelming sales, the restaurant team is upbeat and excited to bring the Arby’s flavors to their town! “The unique challenge of Alaska is getting certain products and equipment from down south all the way up here – so logistically, it’s been a new and unique experience for us,” Jason Dunn, DRG’s Sr. Director for Arby’s, told KTFV.

“I’m so proud of the team in Fairbanks. Their execution has been impeccable, their speed of service is exceptional and we look forward to continuing to grow with this great brand!”
— SG Ellison, DRG President
